Bolivia SHG Aprocafe
This coffee marks the first time we’ve brought you a Bolivian coffee as an Origin of the Month. We got our hands on a small sample a few years ago and many of you loved it, but yes, this is the first Bolivian Origin of the Month in five years.
Meet the Farmers
This coffee comes to us from a small group of 35 specialty coffee farmers who have dedicated their livelihoods to ecological and Fair Trade certified coffee production. They employ ethical and environmentally friendly farming practices every day to bring this coffee to you.
The Cooperative
All 35 farmers who contributed to this lot are members of the APROCAFE cooperative. Founded in 1999, this cooperative brings coffee producers together to ensure the highest quality coffees.
Fun fact: They also have an agritourism program. If you ever make it to Bolivia, you can immerse yourself in the world of Bolivian coffee production – from harvesting to pulping and drying, experience firsthand the passion and dedication that goes into every step of the process. It’s a unique opportunity to connect with the people who grew this coffee.
Where It’s Grown
Grown at elevations of 3,900 to 4,200 feet above sea level. Coffees grown at these elevations often produce a range of complex flavors and characteristics. Cool climate and rich volcanic soil create ideal conditions for cultivating this specialty coffee.
The Cup
With this coffee you can expect average acidity, above average body (especially since we roasted it just past medium), and above average sweetness. Pay close attention and you may catch notes of brown sugar, orange, and red apple. We know that not all of you will pick these up, but please let us know what flavors you taste. We love hearing your tasting notes!
Food Pairing Tips
This coffee pairs beautifully with apple cinnamon coffee cake, caramel pecan rolls, or a slice of apple pie. The brown sugar and fruit notes also complement butterscotch cookies or even a simple cinnamon sugar donut from your favorite local bakery.
