This OOM is incredibly special to us. Back in February of 2021 we made a promise to all of you, that we would bring a different OOM every single month. We have kept our promise as this is our 50th OOM. Believe it or not, some of you have tried every single one of them. The Brazil Jazblu Peaberry Washed is the perfect coffee to celebrate this milestone.

The history of coffee in Brazil goes back to 1727 when Arabica seeds were smuggled in from French Guiana. By 1827, Brazil had become the world’s leading producer of coffee. In 1888 Brazil abolished slavery and this propelled many immigrants to come to Brazil’s coffee growing regions. By 1920, Brazil was producing 80% of the world’s coffee. Today, the percentage of coffee Brazil provides the world has fallen to 33%. Interestingly domestic consumption though is going up. Brazilians themselves drink 20
million 132-pound bags of harvested coffee. That equates to 2.64 billion pounds of coffee.

The Brazil Jazblu Peaberry Washed, as the name implies, is a washed process coffee. The coffee cherries are hand-picked over multiple days because they don’t all ripen at the same time. It was grown in the Planalto da Bahia region of Brazil, which has a micro-climate that is different from the rest of the country. The wet and dry seasons are not well-defined, so farmers have had to develop their own approach to coffee growing, harvesting, and processing. Once picked, the cherries are de-pulped and fermented in water tanks for 12-24 hours and dried in greenhouses.

This exceptional coffee unfolds like a symphony, opening with rich notes of cocoa powder that dance with the warm, toasted embrace of hazelnuts. The sweetness of golden raisins and brown sugar creates a luxurious foundation, while delicate black tea notes add complexity and structure. A bright citrus finish
lifts the entire experience, creating a beautifully balanced cup that manages to be both sophisticated and deeply satisfying.
